For Immediate Release:
Bruce Rosselli, General Manager of the REX, has hired Jeremy Lucas
of Terre Haute.
Jeremy, a catcher, was drafted out of West Vigo High school by the Baltimore Orioles, but decided to play for Indiana State under Rick Heller, where he later was drafted his Junior year by the Cleveland Indians. Jeremy was to play for Brian Dorsett, then REX Field manager for the REX, going into the 2012 REX season, but was drafted. Rosselli says "You could say he was a REX considering he signed a contract, but nevertheless, we welcome him to the REX Nation one way or the other.
Lucas finished his baseball career this summer after six seasons in the minor league playing for the AAA Columbus Clippers. "Jeremy explained to me he needs to move on, and come back to Terre Haute with his wife Kelsey, to finish his degree here at Indiana State" says Rosselli.
Tyler Wampler, REX Head coach, played with Jeremy at West Vigo in the Indiana High School State Championships in 2009, then again playing in the Missouri Valley Conference Regional Tournament, after winning the MVC Championship in 2012. Jeremy earned the prestigious Joe Carter Player of the Year Award, the only ISU baseball player to do so.
I feel adding Jeremy to the current coaching staff, along with coach Wampler, and Pitching Coach, Scott Lawson, Terre Haute North grad, gives a great local mesh with all three coaches being drafted, will be better able to coach our players to the next level, says Rosselli.
