Terre Haute Rex Press Release: New Head Coach for the team, Terre Haute, IN native, A.J. Reed
Wabash Valley Baseball LLC, the owners of REX Baseball, are excited to announce the new Head Coach for the team, Terre Haute, IN native, A.J. Reed. Reed played his high school career at Terre Haute South and his collegiate career at the University of Kentucky. He is a former Major League Baseball player and played for both the Houston Astros and the Chicago White Sox.
He was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2014 MLB June Amateur Draft. During the 2015 season he played for the Lancaster JetHawks of the Class A-Advanced California League and the Corpus Christi Hooks of the Class AA Texas League. During that season, he hit 34 Home Runs and won the Joe Bauman Home Run Award. This award goes to the player who hit the most Home Runs in Minor League Baseball that year. He was a member of the 2017 Houston Astros team that won the World Series.
General Manager Bruce Rosselli said of the hiring, “I’m happy to announce the hiring of A.J. Reed, as our Head Coach for the REX.” Rosselli is no stranger to Reed, as he coached Reed when he was 9 years old at Terre Haute North Little League, and again on a 14 U travel ball team, the Indiana Tigers.” Rosselli added, “I’ve watched him grow as a baseball player through high school, college and onto the MLB. He was determined to be the best pitcher and hitter he could be and proved that a player from the Wabash Valley can make it to the Big Leagues. I feel AJ can provide invaluable experience to our players in how to get to the next level.”
Coach Reed said of his excitement to coach his hometown team, “Just really looking forward to being a part of this program and coming back to Terre Haute to coach and help some kids out and come out and support us. We’re looking forward to a good summer!”
Coach Reed will be available to the media at the REX Baseball Office at 1111 N 3rd St. Terre Haute, IN 47807 tomorrow, May 4, from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. ET.
